Great minds talk about ideas,  average minds talk about events,  and small minds talk about people.

And yet that's what so many of us get caught up in; talking about others and even tearing others down to make ourselves feel better. 1 Peter 3:10 tells us that if we want something more, if we want to love life, if we want to see good days, we must keep our tongues from evil. The scripture says,

“Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.” -1 Peter 3:10

As believers in Christ, we are called to be a blessing to those around us. 1 Peter 3:9 says, “not to repay evil with evil or insult with insult but with blessings.” The chapter goes on to say that we are called to live by this standard so that we may inherit a blessing.

So, ask yourself today, do you love life? Do you want to see good days in this life? Then instead of tearing someone down, it’s time to consider how you could build someone up! Think of something good to say about someone; maybe even an individual you have something against, or someone who has caused you a problem. Consider their lives and think about what is good about them and focus on those things. Recall the good things about people and share that information with others. If you're going to talk about someone, you should be lifting them up and never tearing them down.

Here is a great benefit of putting this positive speaking into action:  If this is how you consistently live and conduct yourself, your community will know you as someone who cares for people. You’ll be known as an encourager. (How about that!). When people see you as an encourager and they know that you are a believer in Christ, you are glorifying the name of God and communicating that you conduct yourself this way not because of who you are but because of whom you’ve given your life to- JESUS.

God bless and have a great week.
